Bus Tour “A” – Peterborough Region Farm Tour
This bus tour headed north from Peterborough for a first stop at McLean Berry Farm. The Farm Market and Pumpkin Festival were the main attractions in October at this well-known local destination. Next the tour continued north to Buckhorn in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes. Kawartha Country Wines is a small winery producing a wide range of fruit wines using local produce. Enjoy a tour and the tasting bar at this lovely log cabin situated on 22 scenic acres. The return trip included a drive along the Trent Waterway from Lakefield to Peterborough.
Bus Tour “B” – Community Food Security Walking Tour of Downtown Peterborough
This tour featured several stops that demonstrated how food connects us all and the many initiatives that Peterborough is taking to improve affordable access to healthy, sustainable food in that city. Participating organizations included By The Bushel, Just Food Boxes, The Community Food Network and more.
Bus Tour “C” – Seasoned Spoon Campus Walking Tour and Cooking Demo
The Trent campus provides a unique environment for food sovereignty
work. The Trent Vegetable Garden and the Seasoned Spoon Café are two
organizations that work together to provide opportunities for students
and community members to learn about and participate in the development
of a regional food system. Participants joined a walking tour of both
organizations, culminating in a short workshop on cooking with seasonal foods.
Bus Tour “D” – “Farm to Table” Culinary Walking Tour of Downtown Peterborough
This particularly tasty tour was led by local culinary entrepreneur, enthusiast and blogger Don Fraser of Farm to Table Catering. Culinary hot spots included: Naked Chocolate, Chasing the Cheese, Stickling’s Bakery, Black Honey Desserts, Peterborough Green-Up (featuring Peterborough Eats and Kyoto Coffee), Publican House Brewery, plus select downtown restaurants.
